Monadelphous lifts profit, dividend

WA-headquartered contractor Monadelphous says the resources sector remains a significant source of new prospects despite market price volatility battering commodities such as lithium and nickel.
It said sustained levels of maintenance activity in the sector were forecast as production remains high and recent mining developments and expansions move into the operating phase.
Monadelphous booked a 3.2 per cent rise in profit for the first half of the year to $30.1m, with reveue up 11.9 per cent to just over $1 billion.
It lifted its interim dividend from 24c to 25c.
The contractor said it had secured more than $1.8b of new contracts and extensions in the six months and noted it was a record half-year for its maintenance and industrial services division, which brought in revenue of $708m.
It ended the half with cash of $263.3m.
Managing director Zoran Bebic said notwithstansding the current crisisi in the nickel industry, most commodities were forecast to remain around current high levels, supporting continued sustaining capital and maintenance spend.
“Investment to sustain iron ore production levels will continue over coming years, several new gas construction projects are currently in development and significant growth is expected in the renewable energy sector,” Mr Bebic said.
“Some price volatility in specific commodities may lead to further decreases or deferral of capital investments, however, levels of mining and mineral processing development in the energy transition metals sector are forecast to remainhigh over the longer term.”
