You either don't understand because you can't or you can and you are wilfully choosing to not understand to not be empathetic or even long term sympathetic to your own kin or friends if you have any. There are some things that are more important than making money - is not about one damn stock or another - if you can't accept that proposition - then it isn't possible to have an adult conversation with you even if you do have a voice and you do have a vote - I can't talk to you.

Citizens in democratic countries have no higher authorities behind them - they really do collectively set the laws and make policy through their actions and they really can collectively take their whole community into crappy places - there is that power - its diffused - we can talk about how just my vote and just my voice makes no difference but it does and some of us know it does.

Jump on a forum an salivate about how 300,000 dollar treatments are going to be protected 'we hope' by an intellectual property moat we hope we can get erected and we'll be happy. But you won't if the damn medicines you need aren't there when you need them or someone you care about does because you didn't realize that collectively you had the power to choose what sort of future you made and you opted for greedy because everyone else will. They don't always. Most people mostly do care about at least some other people and from that and from the basic humility that comes from knowing sometimes even the best scientists amongst us don't have the answers so they have to do controlled trials because its fair and its possible to learn that way - it isn't fair or possible to learn if you can't acknowledge that a) diseases aren't fully known yet sometimes and b) sometimes we have to not treat to see what difference a treatment actually makes - because that is the most efficient and most compassionate way to do things. Fewer people suffer in the long term if you do just the test you need to do to confirm potency.
