I was working for a multinational property developer back in the mid 70's when I got transferred/promoted to manage their Melbourne rent-roll. In that first year of 1974 my staff were reporting up to 100 prospective tenants at an open. I'm too old now to remember the economic dynamics that caused this dynamic (without doing a Google search). In any case the following year of was similar in that we had were flat out housing refugees from Darwin's cyclone, which were prioritized under government direction.
Anyway, just a little of history in the context of the current rental shortage.
