From my research before doing the Cape and then from visiting, there is no plans to bitumen the Bamaga road (where you turn off the road to Weipa). My reference to about 5 years was only the Cape road to Weipa. Not that much to go really. The biggest (and worst) section is through the Bamboo range south of Coen.
