48 million illnesses, 3,000 deaths—every year in the US. All from foodborne diseases.Thankfully, Wiliot has developed a master strategy: secure the food supply chain using ambient IoT.But could real-time food tracking be the game changer? Would Wiliot succeed? Ambient IoT is a battery-free wireless technology being incorporated into multiple wireless standards—such as Bluetooth, 5G Advanced, and Wi-Fi—allowing real-time tracking and monitoring of products throughout the supply chain at even lower costs.Wiliot, a business specialising in ambient IoT technology, is developing a new project to improve food safety and supply chain transparency. Here’s how they aim to play it:The Ambient IoT enables detailed tracking of food products from their origin to the point of sale. This would help identify potential contamination sources and quickly recall products if necessary. This technology can also help prevent food spoilage and ensure that products are safe for consumption by monitoring temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors. It doesn't end there!Wiliot has partnered with iFoodDS and Trustwell to integrate its ambient IoT technology into its existing food safety and compliance platforms. This minimizes food waste, improves inventory quality, guarantees sustainability, and simplifies regulatory compliance. For instance, iFoodDS uses Wiliot's data to increase food safety and operational effectiveness, while Trustwell uses it to improve its traceability solutions. This strategy sets a new standard for supply chain management in the food business by moving away from conventional techniques like QR codes and towards a completely digital, real-time traceability system. All of Williot's efforts, including this partnership, are intended to comply with the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Food Traceability Final Rule (FSMA 204), which will go into effect in January 2026.FSMA 204 aims to reduce the risk of foodborne outbreaks of pathogens like salmonella and listeria while facilitating quicker identification and removal of possibly contaminated food from the market.Additionally, FSMA 204 will impose substantial real-time surveillance of items like cheese, fruits, vegetables, shellfish, and ready-to-eat deli salads, along with extra recordkeeping requirements, when it goes into effect in 2026.The FDA's push for improved food traceability with FSMA 204 has the potential to completely change how we oversee and control food safety. Wiliot's ambient IoT devices will also have completely traceable, compliant, and data-driven supply chain visibility. If Wiliot gets this right, we'll be on track to achieve worthwhile levels of efficiency, automation, and quality geared towards safer, healthier foods. At Vector, we have built a team of top technologists fundamentally rethinking how tools in logistics should work.Follow for more latest insights in supply chain technology.https://lnkd.in/dGEQjeYK
