Gem pricing is also quite complicated. It depends on a number of factors from what I understand.
Small visual flaws inside may reduce the value.
The larger the single cut stone, the higher the per-carat price. For example, 1ct cut gems are more common, but 10ct cut gems are more rare, so if they can cut a single 100ct flawless gem out of it, it'll be worth *lots* more than if they have to cut it into 100 separate flawless 1ct gems.
Gems are quite tricky :) ... I have really no idea how to factor them in. Can't wait to hear about gold... gold is nice and straightforward.
