I sort of thought the announcement was what GXY were expecting if not better as you mentioned. Michael Fotios said on BRR that he was very pleased with the results and it was what they were hoping for.

Judging by some the posts on GXY it was just day traders buying the rumor, selling the fact and moving on to the next quick buck play.

These people have got the patience of an ant. I see some value in this company and probably have a bit of a punt on it at around 80 cents and take advantage of the ants. Surely can't be too much downside on a 30 million market cap and a iron ore project happening as well.
