I had 3000 (after 3:1 split), now have 500. Back in the day when I bought at listing finding $2300 was a big deal and required a lot going without. The ones I've progressively sold over the years all went to good use. This lot I'll hang on to, as mentioned the dividends are too good (not to mention SP growth, currently showing 32,928.72% increase), last FY they paid A$1240 in dividends on 500 shares that initially cost $383.
Over the last 25 years or so you'd have only needed two shares, CSL and CBA. I wasn't a CBA customer so didn't get any free shares and thought they were too expensive on listing as they increased sharply, you win some, lose some haha.
