WITH BOARD APPOINTMENT
Discovery Nickel Limited (ASX:DNL) has positioned itself for the potential
development of its copper project in Botswana with the appointment of
experienced international miner, Mr John Shaw, as a non-executive director of
the Brisbane-based company.
Discovery Nickel Managing Director, Mr Jeremy Read, said the appointment of
Mr Shaw was an important step in building the skills base of the Board as the
Company looked towards a feasibility decision on its 100% owned Maun Copper
Project in NW Botswana.
“Mr Shaw is a geological engineer and has over 40 years experience in the
mineral resource business with a particular focus on the development and
operation of both open cut and underground mines,” Mr Read said today.
“Previously, Mr Shaw was Vice President of the Australian Operations of Placer
Dome Asia Pacific Limited and Managing Director of Kidston Gold Mines. In this
role his management responsibilities included the operations at Kidston, Big Bell,
Granny Smith, Osborne and Misima,” he said.
“He has a wealth of experience in the development of African resources being a
former Chairman of both Gallery Gold Limited and Zimbabwe Platinum Mines
Limited. In his position as Chairman of Gallery Gold Mr Shaw was involved with
the recent development of the Mupane Gold Mine in NE Botswana.
“In addition to his extensive operational and project development experience Mr
Shaw also brings to Discovery a wide range of industry contacts, particularly in
the area of project development, which will strongly complement the existing
professional network of the Board of the Company.”
Commenting on the appointment of Mr Shaw, Discovery’s Chairman, Mr Tom
Eadie, said that he was “delighted that Mr Shaw had joined the Board of
Discovery Nickel.
“This is a particularly exciting time for Discovery Nickel as it looks to accelerate
its assessment of the copper resources on the Maun Copper Project,” Mr Eadie
said.
“John Shaw’s operational and project development experience in Botswana will
be a great benefit to the Company as we move to fast track the assessment of
the Maun Copper Project in NW Botswana,” he said.
“His appointment significantly broadens the skills base of the Discovery Board
and John’s recent experience as a part of the team which built the Mupane Gold
Mine in Botswana will be invaluable to the company,” he said.
Mr. Shaw is also Chairman of Lodestone Exploration Limited and Tri Origin
Minerals Limited and a Non Executive Director of IAMGOLD Corporation and
Quadra Australia Pty Ltd.
