CTAs and their algo machines are relentless. I suggest you keep track of CTA data particularly with your style of high stakes mean reversion. They are mathematically calculated to sustain price and hurt as much as possible if your on the wrong side of a trade. Moves like these only end when their bias flips.
Just look at the FTSE mincing machine last night.
