Don Braid, Mainfreight Group's Managing Director, is delighted with the development, "the Epping site is now our largest owned facility in Australia, and in fact the world. Extending our operations in Australia to 27 sites across six states/territories, the Epping facility joins our purpose-built flagship sites in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane as a state-of-the-art transport and logistics centre, catering to the individual needs of our many supply chain customers". The facility comprises 20,000 m2 of warehousing for our Logistics business, 16,000 m2 of raised cross-dock (230 metres long) for Mainfreight's Transport operations, plus office space and training rooms. The warehouse includes 1,100 pallet spaces of flexible temperature-controlled storage to satisfy the unique requirements of customers in the food and beverage sector. "Consolidating most of our Melbourne warehouse operations at the new site gives us better control over quality", explains Rodd Morgan, head of Mainfreight's Australian business. "There are also significant benefits for our Transport business, with great access to inter-state line-haul corridors". Mainfreight will retain its existing operations at Clayton, south-east of the city, and at Geelong in the west, extending its city-wide coverage and intensifying the network of branches across Australia. "The Epping site has been several years in planning and development", Braid comments, "It's great to see the efforts of our team finally realised. We know that our customers will benefit from the added quality and additional services that the new facility will make possible". ENDS Mainfreight is a global supply chain logistics provider, offering a full range of local and international freight, customs and warehousing services.
