I have been down the mine on a visit long long ago. Looks like only old timers knew how to mine it, or didn't mind claustrophobic feelings lying in a space not wider than your body. So the modern idea when I went was to drill down into the seem from above and blow out the bottom of the seam that would fall into a road way, rinse repeat until all the seam was 3blasted out between the upper and lower road way.
