    Primary votes are irrelevant . If primary votes were the issue we would not have a preferential voting system and minor parties would become irrelevant. The coalition has a higher primary vote only because its the votes of two parties combined and not one. Labor on ts own got more primary votes than the Liberals on their own and more than the Nationals on their own. When you add the Labor portion of preferences from the Green vote etc you get the 2pp and it is the 2pp which is more representative of voter wishes.

    If Primaries were a deciding issue in elections then Labor would form an alliance,coalition with the Greens and the result would still closely reflect the 2pp outcome.
