lockdowns are less necessary if the spread is slower, then tracing and quarantine are much more capable of getting things under control. Vaccination of a significant percentage of the population decreases the viral load and does slow things down. The vaccination rate is nowhere near enough to effect decisions on lockdowns as yet. I am afraid the common cold argument is a spurious one. Morbidity and mortality is totally different. A bit like complaining about interventions to stop a cholera epidemic because gastro isn't that bad. Do we really need to go thru the UK experience?
