According to news Albo is pushing the legislation through Parliament hoping to complete the process by March.

The Coalition and the Greens, which under normal procedure, would not have had to reach a position until Tuesday next week, will now have to arrive at a position on Tuesday this week, the same day Treasurer Jim Chalmers introduces the legislation to parliament.

Greens leader Adam Bandt is holding out for trade-offs in the form of boosted welfare payments and paring back the tax cuts even further for higher income earners.

But the government is prepared to stare him down given if Mr Bandt blocks the changes, the alternative is the implementation on July 1 of the more generous stage three tax cuts that are already legislated and against which the Greens have railed for years.

Mr Albanese wants the bill through both houses by the end of March when parliament rises for the autumn break.

Mr Bandt is not ruling out a Senate inquiry into the changes which, if supported, could push the final vote into the budget sittings in May.

Regardless of how it votes in parliament, the opposition has resolved not to roll back Labor’s tax package at the next election.
It will reserve proposing any embellishments until close to the election when the budget position will be better known.
