Yes, it'd be great if that happened. But it does really happen like that sometimes. I was working for a contrator in Saudi who was laying the tarmac for one of the bat wing bomber airfields in the high desert. He decided to make a bit more money by only laying 5/10 cms thick instead of over 20. One of the engineers was sacked in ongoing retrenchments, went back to the Lebanon & sent a letter to the king on what had been happening. Needless to say he lost his high position in the company- but I dont think he had anything chopped off.
But in America's case, there doesn't seem to any higher authority than the banks.
