The CEO of IBM, Sam Palmisano, recently offered his perspective about a world becoming smarter as intelligence is incorporated into more environments, which are increasingly linked.
Amongst the things he said was this:
"an estimated two billion Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags were sold in 2007, embedded in products, passports, buildings, toll-road sensors – even animals. This number should rise to 30 billion by next year"
He is predicting a humungous explosion in RFID usage by next year... the tipping point is looking mighty close!!
Ok , even though this article has a date of 24Aug 2009, the quote appears to have been made in 2008? or maybe it was recent, not really clear, but even so still very relevant I would think , maybe the timing has been changed a bit.
