" somehow I don't see the independence of women working changing as such I don't see a trend currently for reverting back to 1 income households."
me either.
But, one thing I have learnt is that there are many things one can't see - but that doesn't stop them happening.
No one could see dual income households as the norm 60 years back - and not much further back than that it was unthinkable.
I have always been fascinated by what I can't see - but KNOW will change.
Like when supermarkets replaced the corner store - then shopping centres were the thing ----------- I could never see what would come after even though I knew something would.
Now - online shopping ----------- what next?
Ditto ------- home ownership and property speculation --
why might it not change completely?
After all - the way things have gone since the 60's just can't keep going at that rate ---
so, what will change and how will it work in future?
I have no idea - again. But, I do know the map will be completely different in 50 years - probably 20 at the rate we are going.
I suspect - but, only suspect that country living will make an enormous comeback.
Cities have a lot of problems these days and as much as people say they like living in cities - there are a lot of elephants in rooms ---------
water
traffic
air
density
everywhere those problems exist for big cities.
Country has traditionally had it's own problems ----- remoteness and opportunity are two of the biggest.
Remoteness is getting less of a problem now --- internet has changed the game massively. Good telephone and electricity.
Amazingly I can get to the centre of Melbourne almost as quick now than if I lived in Yarra Valley - and I have no traffic problem at all. And, I fly in.
And all those problems of city wash away - air, water, traffic and density.
People say that cities have things - museums, sport, galleries etc. -- and that is true.
But, my house in Melbourne now costs $2 million - my country house costs under half a million.
You can buy a lot of plane flights to melbourne for the difference ----------- and stupidly enough - travel time is about the same.
Now if that isn't a structural change I don't know what is.
It is an amazing experience to live in Melb and then leave and then do return trips.
Whereas once you noticed the traffic but it was just accepted - after living where there is zero traffic - you come back to Melbourne and just watch the madness.
I don't like public transport - but, I have to say the skybus is magic.
From what I see women want their independence - but many also want their time with children growing up - mostly it is a mortgage that stops that.
Something has to give at this rate.
have a great day
