A couple of years ago I went to Tamworth and one of my wife's relatives had driven up from Sydney in his new Tesla. At the time there was no supercharger in Tamworth and it took him 16 hours with the car plugged into a standard outlet to give it enough range to get back to the nearest supercharger. Coming from the bush they have a way to go - especially if you like a little off-road adventure. Its easy to get long range fuel tanks and/or carry a couple of jerry cans of fuel but what do you do with an EV? Carry a genny & fuel or a few solar panels - still slow to charge.

Frogs statement of 3kw for an hour would equate to 3kWhr (by itself 3kw is an instantaneous energy usage figure), the Tesla model S cars battery capacity is about  100 kWHr. So 3kWHr would only give you about 3% range say 10-20km for a 500km range vehicle. So a full-charge cost of a 100 kWHr battery at 20c per kWHr is $20.
