This article puts into perspective the insatiable demand by china alone, for iron-ore. And they are not about to stop doing what they have been increasingly doing over the last few years......I'd expect they will record higher volumes of imported iron-ore and every other commodity we can think of that they use . One of the compounding influences is their governments decision to save their own resources and import other countries resources, that is the sort of long term vision they have in planning for and around a centralised government system.

China imported 35,680,000 tons of iron ore valued at 4,494.721 million US dollars in February 2008.
The import in January-February reached 11,066,000 tons valued at 14,131. 987 million US dollars, up 10.5 percent
and 99.5 percent respectively year on year.
Following is a table showing the import from 2004 to February 2008, released by the General Administration of Customs:
