Good comment. I was trying to think through what BP's comment meant and was thinking they will be drilling deeper to find the oil/water contact. But that didn't make sense from a "physics " perspective. Your description does. In other words at the spot they drilled they didn't intersect the thickest reservoir sands. Maybe that means that to appraise the well they will need to either do a sidetrack or a step out? The final net pay could be substantially higher.
