Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said whether COVID-19 was the main cause of their deaths was still being investigated.“These are people who had a COVID positive test around the time of their death,” Dr Gerrard said.“Just to clarify .. sometimes in people with multiple medical conditions, particularly older people, it can be difficult to determine what extent the virus played a cause in the death of that individual.“But in the interest of transparency we report all people who have died who have had a recent positive COVID test.”
