Seen that everyone is going around and around the mulberry bush without a proper explanation, let me, if I am allowed to do so, tell you how it works as it happened to me a fair while ago.
On query to the high society and/or the powers that be, I was told that, while you and I are not allowed to do it, as it is just based on .5 cents increments, the Brokers can, and they are allowed to do it. But they are allowed to do many other things that you and I can't, don't they.??
If you go through a broker, instead of selling or buy shares yourself, (I was told) he will do it too because he would be wanting to maximise your returns (while maximising his own as well).
And if he was selling your shares, and at the same time having a buyer sitting on the side, he would then be able to collect brokerage from both parties to the transaction.
