Trump starts his arguments by telling people how smart he is. So does Hokey.
I prefer people to prove their intelligence by making rational and considered statements. Even better when they are backed up by some research or facts. When people do this, they appear intelligent and don't need to tell people how intelligent they are.
Conversely, when people have to say that they are intelligent, it usually implies the opposite.
