Yes, pavbar75 the whole Battery HooHa especially that it involves 100s of kt's Demand in 2017/18 is a real furphy.
Currently China produces All Spherical Graphite for Batteries. Batteries for EV's AND all consumer products [computers, phones, etc] This is total 60kts for export and for Chinese local demand. Think it splits 40kts Export 20kts local. It's exported chiefly to Japan where they "coat it" with Synthetic graphite to improve it's "qualities".
Now of this 60kts a great proportion of the Graphite in it is SYNTHETIC. The term graphite is regularly used to cover both synthetic and natural flake. In fact most "graphite" demand figures you see of say 2/3 million tonne demand currently is for Synthetic with Natural Flake being about 750kts, less than half total.

Also currently flake graphite NOW in Batteries is medium/fine NOT Jumbo whatever.

Anyway the blessed GigaFactory of Tesla EV fame is projected to require 50kts Spherical. A near 100% increase on ALL current production [of 60kts]. But it requires only 120kts of Raw to make that Giga spherical 50kts and that's MAX kts of flake because some kts of synthetic is involved.
You then put in the "wild card" of the various Flake Sizes suitable for spherical, the current under capacity of output of EXISTING graphite mines, throw in the proposed production by all the Wanna Bees from Super Pits to other Boutiques......
and it's flaming obvious why there is talk of a Graphite Bubble!!

Now I realise I don't and can't post real educated like. Talk in patois/french apache underground/world slang style but those are FActs you should find if you did deep research into the graphite market not just articles about Tesla EV's with glossy pictures and hot models draped over the bonnet. Hubba Hubba invest in graphite and this could/will be your New Car!!

KNL has "cracked" the Import Replacement Market for Graphite in Traditional Uses. It's there with Stratmin/VXL and Flinders with it's poncey The Blair Way.
