even to talk about India as a country is oversimplifying it.... imo the 'sub-continent' description is far better; huge difference in India between the states & certainly between the cities & rural areas/ rich & poor.
I'd estimate that India is a good 30-40 years behind China in certain areas although the cities are catching up fast
Undeniably money flowing into the country at the moment & maybe finally India will have its moment after China has risen in ascendency over the last 50 years or so
