Basically there are 4 gaps

Area Gaps :

occurs in areas of congestion ( trendless market )
on average it takes about 3 days to close the Gap

Breakaway Gaps:

Highlight the start of a new trend
on average the time to close the gap is from 2 months to to 6 months

Continuation Gaps:

occurs in the middle of price trends, they do not happen often since it takes a sharp rise followed by a gap and a continued rise in the stock these Gaps are not accompanied with High volume.
on average it takes around 3 months to close.

Exhaustion Gap:

Large gaps are usually Exhaustion gaps and they appear at the end of a trend. Most Exhaustion gaps occur on High Volume its like the last gasp before the stock ends the trend.
Exhaustion Gaps close quickly usually between 1 to 3 weeks .
and 98% in the first month.
