The demise of coal will only come about for either of the following 2 reasons;
1. Politicians legislate against its use, or
2. A more effective and economic substitute is found.
Advances in PV and battery technologies and prices are certainly increasing the likelihood of 2.
Remember, the 'stone age' didn't end coz they ran out of stones.
