The Hicks outcome has worked out quite well ...its almost a win win all round. From a hardline point of view his stint in Guantanamo Bay will be a seen as a great deterrent for all except the most extreme up and coming jihadists.
From the government's aspect his release will be seen as somewhat fair and the gag order will keep him off the front pages until after the election.
The opposition along with certain members of the media, human rights activists and members of the legal profession will take credit for his return since they were the ones highlighting his plight.
Hick's himself is a winner since he returns home a victim and will finaly get the attention he always craved while carrying a story that will one day make him an absolute motsa from a gullible pubic.
Michael Mori has become a real life Lt. Daniel Alistair Kaffee ("a few good men"), if you like and the rest of us can take solace in the fact that the rule of law has... albeit belatedly, prevailed in our great democracy.
So that just leaves his father and although he will be delighted at his return he will see his sons misadventure and suffering... whether deserved or not, was derived from his own negligence as a parent.
