"If we as Australians start to divide ourselves into the dominant culture ..." - that's the very nub of the problem bgh. Until 1967 we whites were the dominant culture and we wanted anybody who came here to be 'just like us'.

Its fine that you've already decided not to support first Australians' desire for reconciliation and progress out of the problems we now face in this respect. Your vote will count equally with everybody else's... eventually though reconciliation, along with truth telling, will be achieved. and it won't have anything to do with guilt. unless you feel it.

If you feel that its important to progress first Australians plight though, it won't come with more money or even housing - it will only come with reconciliation. This will enable people to self-determination and the ability to feel of value in the community.

The Uluru Statement is a roadmap that has been decided over a period of 12 months, with as much consultation and discussion among as broad a range of people across the land. its not just abut lawyers (and what's wrong with legal involvement in developing such a process?).

They've laid out a brief and its now up to the rest of Aus, especially the pollies, to come to the parley and discuss how this can work.

Of course these things are as yet ill-defined... its a democracy in which we live and no-one is attempting to make such demands.

    Didn't you know this?
