A different view ( possibly cynical ).

Ucg produces 30% less CO2 emissions, right

Thats 30% LESS they can trade on the Emission Trading market.

IF , ( here`s where I get cynical )those who will make the most from this trading mechanism DON`T WANT low CO2 emissions then the status quo will remain.( for now at least )

ie... the current coal fired acrid smog poluting stations will make them more money . They then increase the price of electricity ( because of the cost of CO2 ) and YOU and I pay.

What should happen is the Emission Trading Scheme should be eliminated, and the new technologies ( ie UCG etc ) be allowed to compete on a level playing field, and let the market / consumers decide what is best for the country going foward.

With UCG you get cheap syngas, powering a low cost power station for decades. with 30% less emissions.......now that makes sense......does`nt it ?
