I return few products in different shops and they made them in few minutes without problems.
They just used the receipt to find the item and to process the refund to my Zip Account (1-2 minutes max to have the money back on my account).
I notice that in some shop the staff isn't fully prepare to process refunds and payment with apt and zip.
