How does that cause the price to go down? Is it more likely that they are expecting the price to go down and they are advantaging themselves from it? If they are wrong, they lose big time.
Furthermore, if they do borrow, at some point they will have to either either find stock to replace it (which in the stuff of legends will cause a squeeze, they get burned and lo and behold shorters have caused the price to go up lol) or close their position.
Perhaps a lot of people selling caused the price to go down and shorters had nothing to do with it?
