The 4 categories are useful in determining the strengths and characteristics of employees. I used the scale in my own company and it was surprisingly effective in identifying people who weren't well-suited to various roles. Another way to think of the four categories is to compare them to 4 different birds.
Choleric = Eagles.
Sanguine = Peacocks
Melancholy = Owls
Phlegmatic = Doves
We found that the 4 main roles we had in the company were suited to the following personality types.
Managers: (Me) Choleric / Eagles.
Salespeople: Sanguine / Peacocks
Tech Support: Melancholy / Owls
Administration: Phlegmatic / Doves
