Refer to my post earlier in the thread, it is the GDX ETF from Van Eck (not related to witching etc).
Interestingly they seem to have bought 50M shares earlier in the week. The rule with the ETF used to be that they had to acquire the stake in one go on the Friday. Probably they have changed this now so they can implement without distorting the market too much.
As I mentioned in one of the other threads on ETFs, share prices frequently tend to move in advance of the rebalance date and then underperform on implementation. Buy the rumour, sell the fact.
