    Algorithmic trading or computer programs that buy/sell set amounts at set intervals. Usually set in motion when a big buyer wants to accumulate a decent amount of shares on market by slowly averaging up. Can work in reverse as well.

    Looks like someone wants XAM today but doesn't want the SP to take off too quickly before their fill
