WOODSIDE FACES CLIMATE PROTEST VOTE
Institutional investors are urging Woodside shareholders to vote against the re-election of three directors at the company’s AGM next month, accusing the board of failing to address climate change and the energy transition.
Vision Super and BetaShares are leading the protest vote alongside shareholder advocacy group the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility, arguing the oil and gas giant’s climate plan is a “failure” that presents a governance risk.
They have co-filed members’ statements with Woodside, calling for three directors up for re-election – former resources and energy minister Ian Macfarlane, Swee Chen Goh and Larry Archibald – to be held to account for the board’s “repeated failure to present a credible climate strategy”. All three directors have sat on Woodside’s sustainability committee since their appointment to the board.
