I am confused about the 45 day rule and would appreciate guidance that anyone can give.
I note that in off market buy-back documents as prepared by the likes of Telstra, CBA, Fosters, Woolworths, Westpac IAG they all quote the 45 day rule as being 45 days from the ex dividend date.
In other sources that I have seen the 45 day rule is not referenced to the ex dividend date. So what is the correct answer?
