Up to 450 workers at the trucking group Wettenhalls are set to lose their jobs.

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) has been meeting receivers BDO at the company's Melbourne headquarters, where it was confirmed the group had gone into receivership.

All 450 employees are set to lose their jobs.

These include 350 truck drivers as well as warehouse and administration staff.

About 200 jobs will be lost in Victoria.

In Tamworth, 15 jobs are set to go, while about 12 positions will be lost in Adelaide and between 16 and 18 in Canberra.

There will be further jobs lost in Sydney and Brisbane but those numbers are yet to be confirmed.

The company is set to continue trading in the short term while efforts are made to secure a buyer

TWU Victorian secretary Wayne Mader says workers are shocked and dismayed.

"They're just in total shock, I think, and concerned about their entitlements," he said.

"We're just hopeful that the company and the administrator will ensure that all monies that are owed to employees for their entitlements and work done is going to be honoured."
