The Howard/Costello Government was handed a mountain of debt by the profilgate Keating Government, and consequently, the Liberal Government was forced to spend the first years(BEFORE the impact of the Chinese economy) of its life putting the Australian economy on a sustainable fiscal footing (I remember it very well because I was forced to pay a special levy to pay for Labor's profligacy).And it did this inspite of:

- the SE Asian Economic Crisis (early in its period in Office);

- the events and additional expenditure flowing from 9/11;

- the massacre at Port Arthur, which lead to the institution of Gun Control by JH, inspite of vehement opposition from a sector of his own constituency (imagine if Julia would be prepared to introduce legislation that would upset her union mates);

- rescued the East Timorese from decades of torture by and subserveince to the Indonesians;

- put up with the whinging, whining and over paid and underworked Ansett (grossly misnamed) workers, in the immediate aftermath of 9/11;

- offered sustantial assistance to those Australians injured in the Bali Bombing, inspite of the whinging and whining by those who cruely tried to lay the blame for this callous act at the feet of the Liberal Party;

And what did the ALP do with the billions it inherited from the Liberal Government?

It spent billions on pink bats and endless handouts and, furthermore, it intends to spend billions more on a system that will be outdated before its even finished,
and a 'Pie in the Sky scheme', euphemistically called the Education Revolution. And then it dethroned one inept politician and replaced him with another even more inept.You can't get more stupid and politically inept than that!!
