I am currently in Japan for a holiday. I realise the Japanese culture is different from Australia and higher population concentrations. When looking at their pharmacies, they are sellers of vitamins and supplements. Also there is a major focus on beauty products. Medicines are probably about 20% of space. Most stores are larger retailers even in smaller centres. They present as sophisticated retailers with appropriately dedicated and qualified staff for the various product lines. The store layouts showing some similarities are the large Terry White stores. But the staff don’t stand around the cash registers, they are there to support and sell their specific category. I sense this is where our director Dennis Bastas is thinking of growing his non-pharmaceuticals business (see various articles). This is where PharmX should gain beyond the pharmaceutical category into other broader product lines. PharmX will clip the ticket along the way.
