A potential reason as to why it has not already taken off is perhaps that many companies were entrenched in the dev path for Flash memory ... that is now coming to the end of its scaleable road... and there are new technologies vying to be the successor. So no money was thrown at it till now. ReRam is one of the more promising ones. But at this point needs funds to get to the next stage ...hence the Reverse listing on the ASX via FRY I also think if you look at credientals of some the mgmt team you can see materials specialists in there ... it seems on the face of that the 4D-S team may have overcome some of the challenges of prev versions.
An interesting comparison although not computer related is the vanadium redox battery ... discovered by an Australian Scientist in 1990's accidentally ... Vanadium redox batteries ability to store vast amounts of energy but up to now there was no need to spend large $$ developing at no-one had a use for it ... Now we renewables energy storage and we do .. an they a scrambling to get a large scaled version up.
