Likely meaning, any meaningful version of the tech would inherently rely on the 4ds solely owned patents and IP. So HGST may have joint ownership of bits and pieces but unless they can find a way to circumvent the 4DS owned patents in addition then perhaps somewhat useless.
While a theory, it doesn't add up as to how or why WD would allow the JDA to out manoeuvre them like this. Why claim joint ownership of IP if it amounts to being of little value in the end to them.
