trade off now is a juggling act for them between best acquisition price / expedient time line turn around on present and stated technical developments going forward between IMEC & 4DS .........no brainer HGST wants a chat....( hgst =WD in recap as we all know ....
2020 saw WD complete all phase outs of remaining hgst product and brands now painted with WD colours and technicals ...so why keep referring to yourself as hgst.... food for thought)
4ds produce working array with functionality via the 'access device'...they know they get multiple order of magnitude in return on the acquisition price over time - driven by the current market demand delirium to i) own the space in $$$$ return on investment and general revenues ii) secure supply chain ( paramount ) iii) exponentially increasing dominant revenue stream in DRAM between 2022 and 2025/26 (trendforce) ...
What price you pay for a universal memory in the DRAM space with the full operability and characterisation with unseen top end metrics....yep...its a big end of town game from here in my opinion - glad IMEC continue to be the main development partner (it simply adds more value both in dollar terms and exposure terms - we know who walks around that clean room under the IMEC roof - )

what price you pay?
One bidder negotiating limits the leverage....multiple interested parties and the leverage increases accordingly....thats what is needed
leverage, the DR knows that ....IMEC knows that - the cartel do this everyday - the industry knows that - its the current MO.
