Anyway, back to the pulling the pin on the platform lot at the last minute. A couple of friends of mine worked at Dyson in Bristol as product engineers/designers.
Dyson had a new product due to be released. It was in the warehouses, ready to be rolled out with a massive launch. My friend found a critical issue with the product. Like reputationally/safety bad with it.
He went to Dyson himself and told him they had to pull the launch and junk the new product. Imagine doing that. How many times would you rerun your analysis to make sure you hadn't forgotten to carry the 2 or had a value out by 3 orders of magnitude because the unit was meant to be in mm not metres.
Now imagine being the IMEC engineer breaking the same sort of news to 4DS. It's going to create a massive pineapple for all concerned, but averting the larger failure down the track will make people begrudgingly accept it, if you explain it clearly.
They could have communicated that in the technical annoucement. They had weeks to word that portion of the story together before the agreement was reached.
