I suppose it's worth understanding the full context of the comparisons.
The primary goals of both 4DS and Weebit actually don't overlap. Weebit primary goal is embedded ReRAM, 4DS discrete ReRAM.

Weebit however, is not only advancing its primary goal, which is embedded ReRAM, but discrete on the side in parallel. Not to mention the enhanced selector development Harmattom mentioned which is absolutely huge. Something that wasn't thought realistically achievable in conjunction with ReRAM success (see Surfguy's post around James Tour and SanDisk in ReRAM productionisation ideation early days).

Now we have Weebit racing forward its progress in commercialisation in partnership with SkyWater on its primary goal. Achieving what wasn't perceived a possibility for developing their discrete tech. And continuing development, investigation and research into what is 4DS' primary goal.

Now let's look at the macro situation:

We have a number of contenders quietly working on ReRAM, Sandisk in conjunction with Western Digital, TSMC and IBM.

Weebit and 4DS are the smallest in regards to cash flow availability in this space.

Weebit however, timed a Capital Raise almost perfectly. And are cashed up for years on cash burn at this rate. 4DS have what, less than a year left of funds left?

We are in an economic downturn where accruing such capital is a much harder situation, much more so due to their number of recent failures.

Quite frankly Weebit is the one pulling the brilliant moves. Which I'd raise the demand to a herculean effort from the likes of 4DS.

Time is a critical factor in this domain, which moves slowly due to complexity of the technology we're dealing with here. So setbacks like these are very expensive. Especially given the position other candidates are in.
