I envisage the advantages from Platform 4 over DRAM and SRAM are quite evident to Western Digital. Well, evident enough for them to call a meeting with Peter and Ting.
4DS Memory is out of stealth mode, meaning any joint collaboration or development work with Western Digital to quantify 4DS tech with WD architecture will have to be announced publicly and Tanis will make sure all industry heavyweights know of Western Digital’s moves with 4DS and the already qualified data out of imec.
Now that Tanis is onboard, Western Digital can no longer enjoy keeping 4DS under the radar, therefore WD really only have three options without risking losing access to 4DS, 1. purchase their entitled 20 year Non-Exclusive License, 2. initiate a Multi Billion $ USD acquisition or 3. Western Digital have KIOXIA under their existing joint venture acquire 4DS and repatriate the tech back to Japan.
