Given the history of 4DS, some scepticism is justified. But you have to put it into perspective. PL4 success was a game changer. Until this point 4DS had an idea of what their memory could do, but all along reiterated a working megabit memory array was required for full characterisation.

Well, now they have it and the results were far better than expected!!! They proceeded with in-depth consultations with imec and have concluded that chasing the AI market provides the greatest opportunity.

For imec, the opportunity has provided justification to significantly enhance their own fab capabilities to allow 4DS to scale down to 20nm. That’s right, the most advanced semiconductor research facility in the world has upgraded its fab to facilitate an obscure 4DS R&D project.

Perhaps there’s a little more to this than a marketing pivot to facilitate a pump and dump?
