As I've said before, betamax vs VHS and other such tech fights-to-the-death don't necessarily apply in this space. With portable media like VHS, Blu-Ray, you had issues of no cross-compatibility, so one technology really had to emerge victorious. By contrast, in memory and storage there are standards (e.g., USB, PCI-e and SATA) in terms of how these chips can interface with actual systems, so it's not like you have to commit to one technology or the other.

As for 3D Xpoint, the impression I've had watching some reviewer videos is that it is unlikely to have much future, but is good as a stand-in until better things come along. But I think that was over 12 months ago, so maybe things have changed now.
