Correct. As an active software dev I can attest to that. The last really huge innovation of this scale in software was the Delphi IDE platform from Borland, which through MS poaching became the basis for Visual Studio, but while the latter has a much larger user base it has still not achieved the productivity boost that Delphi (now owned by Embacadero instead of Borland) achieved in Version 7 on up to it's current release. Delphi made it possible for two programmers to develop and maintain an advanced business system of millions of lines of code and a huge range of disperate operational components. Now using Cursor + D0.dev - an AI equipped dev environment (still in prototype mode, really) - I get the same sensation I had when I started using Delphi 7 (having been using Delphi since the earliest release). Delphi's true power was the huge component building community and the ease with which components could be integrated into the IDE and thence your app. In cursor and D0.dev, the components are literally in the smarts. You chat with the system to write the code. It is so fast to use and develop in for a single skilled programmer it is astonishing. If nothing else emerges the boost to software development and the reduction in cost associated will be the killer app for AI, but I think this story is being replicated in multiple disciplines, and we are literally back in the equivalent of 1995 as the internet emerged into the mainstream in terms of the stage of development that AI / LLM are presenting. There is so much more to come, and it is evolving faster than any tech I have ever worked with - and it is mainly an open source community, as the model builders tend to release the models into the community.
